About

Two masterpieces of Russian classical music are on the programme. Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony was created in 1877 following a personal crisis and combines melancholy with passionate rebellion. Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition was originally composed for piano and is presented here in Maurice Ravel's celebrated 1922 orchestration, which gave the work its enduring popularity today.
