The presentation examines how temporary shelters—particularly the well-known IKEA structures—are deployed in a state-led relocation project in urban Senegal. The researcher shows how Senegalese citizens, through modified use of these materials, expose the political problems of relocation and reveal new challenges of displacement, resettlement and urbanisation. The talk is in English and free; there will be a discussion and informal drinks afterwards.
